The piano music history of Brownsville, Brooklyn, NYC dates back to the early 20th century. During this time, the neighborhood was known for its thriving working-class African American and Jewish communities, which had a rich musical culture. This culture was strongly influenced by jazz and blues, and many of the area's notable musicians, such as Jelly Roll Morton, Nick LaRocca, and George Gershwin, were known for playing the piano. As the borough continued to grow, it remained a center for jazz and blues, and the piano music of the neighborhood was an important part of its identity. The music of Brownsville continues to be celebrated today, and its influence can be heard in modern music of all genres.
