The piano has a rich and storied history in Brooklyn, New York City. Brooklyn has long been a hub for piano music, with the first piano shop opening in the borough in the early 1800s. During the 19th century, the area was home to some of the most prominent and influential music schools in the United States, such as the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, where hundreds of pianists and composers began their careers. Over the years, Brooklyn has also become a hub for jazz and other forms of music, with some of the most famous jazz musicians having lived in the area. Brooklyn has also produced some of the most celebrated classical composers of the 20th century, such as George Gershwin and Aaron Copland, both of whom spent time in the borough.
