Borough Park, Brooklyn, NYC is steeped in piano music history. It has a long-standing tradition of piano teachers, concert pianists, and piano performance groups. In the early 1900s, the area was home to many of the leading piano teachers and academies. The renowned pianist and teacher, Rabbi Shmuel Chait, opened a piano school in the neighborhood and was a major influence in the area. Later, during the 1940s, the now defunct Brooklyn Conservatory of Music opened its doors and provided piano lessons to a generation of young musicians. The Conservatory also hosted many concerts and recitals featuring local pianists.
